Please note that throughout this document UT2003 is referenced.  The same procedures apply to working with UT1 files and servers.

RSC Overview
=============
Let's say you are using a redirect server for your ut2003 game server. You've just downloaded thirty new maps you want to put on your server. So as you extract them one by one, you check your redirect server to make sure the maps, textures, audio, staticmeshes, etc. are already there. If you are like me, you hate adding maps to your server because it's such a pain in the butt.

What RSC does is get a file listing from your redirect server and gets a listing of the files in the directory you specified (like your ut2003/maps folder or the folder you just unzipped all those new maps too). It checks if the files are on the server, if the files aren't on the server RSC will report them and optionally compress the files and move them to a folder you specify. Then you can just copy the compressed files to the redirect server, or RSC can FTP the files in the compressed folder to the FTP server of your choice.  This works with all unreal-related files, not just map files.

RSC also has the capability to compress/decompress files manually, and give a file listing of the redirect.

Installation
==========
Install RSC Like any other program.

Note:  the default values for 'Redirect server to query:' and the ftp settings will work with the public ut2k3maps.gaming.stny.com redirect server in UT2K3 mode.  In UT1 mode it points to the ucc.sobservers.com redirect.  If you want to put maps on this public redirect you have to email the files to them.

How to use RSC

Diagram 2:  RSC Menu

Diagram 3:  Settings Menu

Diagram 4:  Mode Menu

Diagram 5:  'RSC Configuration' Menu Configuration Window

Diagram 6:  FTP Settings Window

A Step by Step Example
====================
1.  I downloaded a new map package that contains a map,  a staticmesh, and a texture.  I extract the map, static mesh, and texture to c:\newmaps\map1.

2.  I launch RSC.  I first double check my mode then, in the 'Location of files:' text box I type (or browse to) c:\newmaps\map1.

3.  I double check the 'Redirect server to query:' textbox.  (This is generally the same URL that you use in your ut2003.ini.)

4.  I click 'Settings' (on the menu) and click 'Configure RSC' (since it's my first time running this--I need to tell RSC where everything is.)

5.  In the 'RSC Configuration' window, I type (or browse to) c:\ut2003\system for the 'Path to ucc.exe'.  For 'Location to put compressed files' I type (or browse to) c:\newmaps\uz2files (you can use whatever you want for this.)  Then click on 'OK'

6.  To setup the FTP, I click on 'Settings' (on the menu) and click 'FTP Server Settings'.

7.  In the 'FTP Settings' window I verify that everything is configured correctly for my FTP Server.  Click OK.

8.  Since I want RSC to compress any files not found on the redirect server I put a checkmark in 'Compress files not found on redirect server' checkbox.

9.  Then I click the 'Query Redirect Server' button.  RSC does it's magic.....

10.  The map and staticmesh files weren't on the redirect server, so another window pop ups that compresses those files in c:\newmaps\map1 and then moves the compressed files to c:\newmaps\uz2files (because that is what I specified as 'Location to put compressed files'.)

11.  Okay, cool, my files are compressed and ready to be put on the redirect server.  At this point I can manually move them over to the redirect server, or let RSC FTP the files to the server specified in the config.

12.  I will let RSC FTP the files for me.  I click the 'FTP files to server' button and RSC looks in c:\newmaps\uz2files (since that is where I told RSC to place the compressed files) and uploads the .uz2 files.  As each file is uploaded, the status window will report whether or not the files where uploaded successfully.

13.  If all of the files where uploaded successfully, RSC will ask me if I want to delete the compressed files.  I'll say yes since I won't need them again.

14.  Now I'm all done, and my files are on the redirect server.

FAQ
=====
Q.  Does RSC also check textures, audio, and other unreal related files

A.  Yes, as long as it is a .u* file, RSC will check to see if it's on the server.

Q.  What are all these ~RSC20030530145565.bat type files in my ut/system folder?

A.  These are the batch files that RSC creates and runs to compress and move the files.  You can safely delete them.

Q.  I just FTP'd my files to the redirect server, but when I query the server again it says the files still aren't on the server

A.  There could be a couple of reasons.  1.) The owner of the redirect server (if using a public one) might have a script that copies over the new uploads every ten minutes, or so.  2.)  The redirect server might not like files with spaces in the names, take out the spaces.  3.)  Do you have caching turned on?  If so clear the cache via the Settings menu.  4.)  There may be a bug in RSC, see last FAQ item.

Q.  I'm running my game server on Linux, anything special I need to know?

A.  You can do two things, copy the whole entire ut2003 directory over to your windows machine (via ftp, etc.), or using samba create a share on the Linux box and map a new drive on you windows box.  Make sure that the path to ucc.exe points to a windows version of ucc.exe.

Q.  Can RSC work with redirect servers listening on a port other than 80?

A.  Yes.  For the URL enter http://<your site>:<port>/...........

Q.  Can RSC handle Universal Naming Convention (UNC)?

A. Yes

Q.  What does the option 'Cache HTML Folder List' do.

A.  RSC will download the folder list of your redirect and save it to a file.  The next time you query your redirect, instead of going to the web to get the list, it loads it from the cache.  The cache can be deleted by switching modes, exiting out of RSC, or click Settings-->Clear Cache on the menu.  This setting is best used with redirects having a large amount of files, or are slow returning the HTML folder list.

Q.  I get the following "ERROR: Unable to connect to remote host" when trying to ftp my files

A.  Check your settings under FTP settings:  wrong user ids and passwords can cause this.  If you upgraded from 1.0f to 1.0g you'll have to re-enter your password.

Q.  RSC says there are no uz2 files on the redirect server, when in fact I know there are.

A.  Check to make sure the URL matches the URL used in ut2003.ini.  Also see the next question.

Q.  I'm having a problem, what should I do?

A.  Contact me and give as much information as possible about your problem.  There may be some bugs I haven't discovered yet.
